Diaphram Walling

D Walls are a common element of many large construction projects. They are used to create underground retaining walls. Bentonite based mud is used during the excavation of the diaphram wall.  Bentonite both supports the sides of the excavation and transports cuttings to the mud recycling plant.

Once the walls are cast the interior can be excavateded leaving a void. They are a common way to create a vertical shaft.

KM2 bentonite and KM Ultrabore bentonite ( for ultra low carbon footprint ) are the main grades for D- Walling.

D Walling has been used in:

  • Jubilee Line
  • Docklands Light Railway
  • Crossrail
  • Channel Tunnel
  • National Grid Tunnels
  • Large office blocks
